🪷 TESTOSTERONE; IT’S NOT JUST FOR BOYS!

Testosterone is often thought of as just a male sex hormone, but it plays vital part in women’s health!

It doesn’t just play a role in our libido but it is also crucial for our muscle mass, brain and bone health, moods and energy levels too!

When we are experiencing  regular menstruation cycles, the fluctuations between oestrogen and progesterone allows us to build muscle and maintains a lower level of body fat.

That regular cycle of oestrogen and progesterone raising and lowering kept us balanced.

These heightened levels of oestrogen compared to levels through menopause meant we could regulate our body temperature more easily, and had found it easier to build muscle and lose body fat.

The heightened levels of progesterone resulted in strong bones and bone density and the ability to balance our cortisol levels (stress hormone)

We also had our highest levels of testosterone during our menstrual years.

Testosterone contributes to our libido and sex drive as well as growth and repair of bones, muscles and other body tissues.

Oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone are what we call ‘sex hormones’

Jump to perimenopause. This is the transition phase when your menstrual cycle starts becoming less regulated and hormones levels fluctuate more erratically.

The majority of our sex hormones are produced in our ovaries, and as our cycles being to reduce, our ovaries begin to decrease production of these essential hormones

This results in a range of changes and you may find your body doesn’t respond as it did in the past.

You may struggle with regulating your body temperature, your sleep may be disturbed, you may be feeling more fatigued or struggling to maintain a healthy weight.

Many women find that taking testosterone improves their stamina and energy levels; both physically and mentally – and that it often improves their libido and ability to orgasm.

There are usually no side effects with testosterone treatment
