Menopause & mental health

🪷 HOW THE MENOPAUSE CAN AFFECT YOUR MENTAL HEALTH

Hormonal changes which occur through the menopause can create a range of mental health issues and these can present themselves in various ways

Oestrogen, Progesterone & Testosterone are the three hormones that are essential for your overall wellbeing, and as we know, these decrease naturally as we go through the menopause.

This decline in hormones can be responsible for poor mental wellbeing and a range of mental health symptoms

The most common include

  • Forgetfulness

  • Brain fog

  • Anxiety & panic attacks

  • Depression

  • Irritability & anger

  • Loss of confidence

  • Low self-esteem

  • Lack of motivation & energy

  • Increase in fears & phobias

With the decline in hormones, the level of Serotonin produced by the brain also decreases, seriously affecting your mood

Add to this the knock on effects and issues caused by other symptoms (such as stress and anxiety caused by loss of libido, anger and brain fog due to lack of sleep; there are many mental health problems which are a result of other symptoms)

There are is so much misleading information, and this makes it even harder for many women to find the right treatment for them.

By following a healthy, hormone friendly diet, exercising regularly, practising a good self care routine, can help manage your menopausal symptoms

We are slowly beginning to discuss these symptoms in more depth and mental health is such a complex issue, but with limited dialogue regarding mental health and the menopause, many women are suffering in silence and many have very little understanding of what and why they are experiencing these symptoms and how to manage them.
