🪷 DID YOU KNOW - MENOPAUSE CAN AFFECT YOUR BREATHING & RESPIRATORY SYSTEM?
This condition, known as Dyspnea affects around 20% of menopausal women and is again due to reducing oestrogen levels which affects lung and respiratory functions
Breathlessness through the menopause will often not appear alone and often occurs with several other symptoms such as night sweats, hot flushes, mood swings, anxiety and vaginal irritation and dryness.
Some studies show that the breathlessness symptom is due to the link between hormones and inflammatory actions performed by the body while other studies have suggested that increased insulin resistance may be a contributing factor, but there is no conclusive evidence as to why some menopausal women suffer with this symptom but studies continue and with more research, more answers will be available.
HRT can be used to treat this in severe cases, but lifestyle choices can help, by ensuring you maintain a healthy weight and eat a nutritious diet. Try to maintain heart and lung health through regular exercise and activities, as long as these don’t cause you discomfort or difficulty breathing.
Refrain from smoking and inhaling other harmful toxins such as vapes.
If you suffer with shortness of breath or have an underlying respiratory condition that worsens through your menopause, be sure to seek medical advice
