🪷 IMPOSTER SYNDROME
What is Imposter syndrome?
Imposter syndrome is a psychological condition that many menopausal women experience, and it cultivates feelings of inadequacy and incompetence, even though genuine success in their field and high levels of qualifications have been achieved.
It can present itself in work environments, relationships, friendships, or just in every day life.
It is a very common and frustrating condition and can severely impact on a woman’s confidence in many or all aspects of her life.
Studies show that 52% of menopausal women say they have lost confidence in their abilities and capability in their work roles, relationships or in every day life.
I have worked with many women, all of whom hold senior level positions in a variety of industries. They have invested years and effort to achieve high levels of qualifications, knowledge and positions in their fields. But sadly, they have been affected by Imposter Syndrome in varying degrees and this has impacted on their confidence, roles and ability to perform their jobs.
This is a truly exhausting and life changing symptom of the menopause and many women sadly leave their roles due to imposter syndrome, but this needn’t be the case
There are tools and techniques that I can teach that you can implement to redevelop your confidence and your belief in your self, your abilities and rebuild your self belief.
Here are just a few of my top tips that can help
Focus on the facts. Imposter syndrome makes you feel like you aren't good at your job, so remind yourself of all your successes and achievements
Acknowledge, validate, then let go. Listen to why you're feeling inadequate then see if you can validate it, you probably can't. When you can't, move on from it
Share how you're feeling. Speak to your team leader or HR for support
Look for evidence. Understand where and why you're feeling inadequate and try to explain why you feel that you don't feel competent
Reframe your thoughts. Use self care practices to redesign your thought process
Learn from your team members. Speak to other women that may be experiencing the same and support each other
Anticipate imposter syndrome to reduce its effects. If you feel these negative thoughts creeping in, take steps to reduce its impact
Use positive affirmations. Reaffirm your abilities, tell yourself how amazing you are and how much you have achieved and survived
Look for a mentor...
