🪷 FROZEN SHOULDER
Many of the ladies I have worked with over the years, have encountered something none of them even thought was a menopause related symptom.
It is known as FROZEN SHOULDER and although there is no definitive reason linking this condition to menopause, it seems more women in this phase of their life experience the condition
This could mainly be due to declining oestrogen levels which helps maintain the elasticity and integrity of the body’s joint's connective tissues.
WHAT IS FROZEN SHOULDER?
Frozen shoulder also known as ‘Adhesive Capsulitis’, causes pain, stiffness, reduced or loss of movement/mobility and is an inflammatory condition that gradually increased in severity over a few weeks or months.
TREATMENTS INCLUDE:
Gentle, physio and mobility exercises with a supervised and progressive plan in place to monitor progress
HRT
Supplements: glucosamine, omega 3 and collagen are all beneficial in supporting your joints and maintaining muscles and connective tissues
Stay gently active. Ensure you keep the rest of your body moving and perform gentle mobility exercises daily. Swimming is a brilliant form of exercise that allows your body to be fully supported all while allowing freedom of movement
Anti inflammatory Medication is a short term solution to relieve pain and reduce swelling but please seek the advice of your GP or pharmacist as long term use can cause other health concerns
Use hot and cold treatments. Heat applied will encourage blood flow to the joint allowing the human growth hormone to repair the damage, where as cold will reduce the swelling so be sure to alternate when you can.
Avoid weight bearing. Try to avoid lifting any weights, especially above your head, simply circle the shoulder backwards and then gently move the arm, in all directions and without over extending and NEVER reaching the point of pain
If problems persist, do see you GP or seek the advice of a professional
I have successfully worked with many women who have suffered with frozen shoulder so if you are experiencing reduced mobility or discomfort in your should joint, please do get in touch via my contacts page
